Before heading over to Middle Bass Island, we met friends in Vermillion at the Quaker Steak and Lube restaurant. A few days later, after our boat repair and canvas build, we headed to Middle Bass Island! We set out early in the morning from East Harbor and we weren't sure what we'd find. Everything on Middle Bass Island was full. We cruised by Kelly's Island and onto Middle Bass. Once we arrived at the state park, we tied up to the courtesy dock beside some young people fishing. We talked to Lucille about our hopes for a cancellation so that we could dock for the night and stay and explore the island. After a longer than expected wait at Island Grind coffee shop we arrived back on our boat. As we pulled away from the dock, we spied Lucille riding toward the dock on her bicycle to catch us and tell us that there was a cancellation! We tied up to the dock and left the boat to explore the island on foot. We walked toward the general store, past the center of town (not much), past the airport, past the swamp, past a giant fairy garden, past a giant fish, through the nature preserve, and all the way to the point. As we headed home, a local stopped us and asked us if we needed a ride somewhere. Tony's thumb out may have given her the idea that we needed a ride. We hoped into the back of the truck and got a ride back to the general store where a margarita and a pizza awaited us! It was a great spot! We'd highly recommend Middle Bass Island!
