On our way from Boca Grande to Sanibel, we decided to pull over and stop and celebrate 2,000 miles on the trip! We stopped at Cabbage Key and reminisced about our first time there with our friends Greg Hawk and Ruth Styles Hawk and wished they were there with us again! Legend has it that Jimmy Buffet was inspired by the cheeseburger here and wrote the famous Cheeseburger in Paradise song. So we thought we'd better order a cheeseburger! The captain thought the cheeseburger might have been overpriced, but the best mate thought it was tasty! Once we arrived in Sanibel, it was time to wash the exterior of the boat and start to get it ready for leaving the boat at St. James City while we head home to celebrate Christmas with family and friends. We took an early evening walk on the bike trail that circles the island and found a DQ. The next day it was time to clean the interior of the boat and detail the exterior. We also took some time in the late afternoon for a boat ride to another marina nearby, Tween Resort and Marina on Captiva, to get gas and a pumpout. When we arrived back to our slip, we took another late night walk the other direction on the bike trail and found the lighthouse, beach, and a shop claiming to have the best homemade ice cream on Sanibel Island. That didn't leave any light or time for shelling on the famous shelling beaches of Sanibel, so we'll have to come back!
