Day 1: We woke up to a clear calm sunny day (74 degrees) on the Ohio River at Ripley, Ohio on the dock of our home marina. There was no noticeable debris in the water as we got started at 7:30. Then at 7:53am, the captain declared, ""There's more debris in the water than you think." The captain tried out the autopilot around the Ripley bridge. Soon after, we used the VHF for the first time in the trip to communicate with a barge. We arrived at Shawnee State Park around noon and had lunch on the boat. Found that the golf course at Shawnee had been taken out and is being replaced by more campground area. We headed to the Greenup Lock and arrived at 1:30pm, our first lock ever! We spent 40 minutes in the lock alone. The lockmaster said that he would take it slow for our first lock! Less than 2 miles after the lock, we arrived at Holiday Marina for the night. We were on a T-head and had dinner on the boat followed by a shower and an early night. 8 hours on the water. 83 miles.

Day 11: We slipped past Holiday Point Marina on the return trip home and stayed along the river at Adam's Landing in Huntington, WV. We enjoyed a sit on the bench on the bow of the boat at sunset after dinner at the restaurant connected to the marina. The slip ended up being free, so that was nice too!
