As we left Brockport, we saw deer along the canal wall and later the same day spied eagles perched on high branches. We arrived in Lockport and tied up to the lock wall. Not long after we tied up, we were joined by a retired couple traveling in a rented canal boat. They too tied up to the lock wall. We quickly started with our tour of the lock and lock museum. There was so much to see and learn about the history and construction of the New York Erie Canal. We also spent time exploring the town. We went to the Italian restaurant recommended by the lock staff and the couple on the rented canal boat. We also enjoyed the homemade ice cream at the creamery near the lock wall.

There was some unwanted excitement on the lock wall during our stay. First, the woman on the rented canal boat dropped her wallet/purse in the canal and spent several hours trying to fish it out. Miraculously, the lock master pulled it up the next morning after we'd left. Second, there was a woman walking the lock and shouting early in the morning, waking us around 5am. As her voice made its way closer to our boat, we decided to call the police. After a few calls to the police and her throwing a construction cone onto the boat, the police arrived and she soon left the area. Thankfully there was no damage done to the boat.

We left later that morning with a new understanding of the Erie Canal and that we would be traveling downhill as we headed to Buffalo.
