We left Buffalo on a sunny morning, but it wasn't long before a pop up shower started. It started just as we were cruising by a group of female rowers practicing in Black Rock Canal. At the same time, we passed under the Peace Bridge carrying people across the US/Canadian border. We could see the Black Rock River and its speedy current flowing, making us appreciate the easy roll of the canal. We soon arrived at the canal entrance as we headed into the first small town of Tonawanda. We continued on the canal through the two step lock and on through a number of small towns and under lots of bridges. Along the way, we met a guy named Sean from Tucson, Arizona cruising in a sailboat with an electric motor. We talked together across the water and exchanged contact information. It wasn't long after we arrived in Median, that Sean too arrived on the town wall along the canal. He joined us on our boat for a drink and some conversation before he set off to explore the town. We'd already explored the town and decided to stay on the boat and have dinner and enjoy the Friday night cruise-in happening right beside our boat.

The next morning, Karen woke early and set off on a walk. She found the waterfall that she'd read about and enjoyed exploring on her own. When Karen returned to the boat, Tony was up. We showered and then headed out for breakfast and a trip to the farmers' market before untying the lines and continuing our journey across the Erie Canal.
