We set out on a short run from Hessel to Mackinac Island with R.A.M.B.L.R. (a boat named after the mothers of the captain and first mate). Volare cruised on to Mackinaw City. We settled into our slip and then set out to explore the island on foot. We walked to the Grand Hotel to decide on what meal to have there during our stay. We started with drinks at the Cupola Bar Restaurant late in the day that first day. Then we returned to the main street in search of a dinner spot. We picked Horne's and shared nachos.

The next day, we woke up early to take in breakfast at the Grand Hotel. We enjoyed the buffet as well as the ability to order dishes off the menu. We spent the rest of the morning and early afternoon enjoying the grand front porch, including a history lecture by the Grand Hotel historian. We left the Grand Hotel early in the afternoon and spent some time wandering around the town and ended up at Hornes for dinner. The next day, we rented bikes for the morning and went all the way around the island, stopping a few times to take in the views, including Arch Rock where we parked the bikes to climb the steps to see Arch Rock overlooking the lake. Also while on Mackinac Island, we toured Fort Mackinac where we took in a cannon fire demonstration.

The marina where we stayed was pretty rocky, but it afforded us opportunities to be on the island early in the morning and late at night. We watched the ferries and cruise ships bring guests to the island throughout the day.
